I was recently in the market for a new touch screen laptop computer.  One thing that I learned was that there are many options in terms of the laptop batteries that you buy.  You may not realize that when you buy a laptop, for not much more money you can upgrade to a laptop battery that has more cells in it.  While I was shopping for touch screen laptop computers, I noticed that some of the touch screen laptops had three cell batteries and some had nine cell batteries.  If you think about it a nine cell battery will last three times as long as a three cell battery.  This means that it will be subjected to three times fewer charge cycles than a three cell battery.  It is definitely worth purchasing a laptop battery that has more cells in it.  It will last longer and need to be replaced less frequently.

To increase the length of the lifespan of your laptop battery, you will want to do all you can do subject it to fewer charge cycles.  The way to do this is to configure your laptop so that it is running at its maximum efficiency when it is being powered by the laptop battery.  This is done by changing the configuration of the power management settings to be at the most efficient setting possible.  In addition to that, you can also configure your laptop to have a fairly dim display when your computer is plugged into a power source.  I would also recommend shortening the length of time before your computer goes into hibernation mode when it is not being used when running on the battery power alone.
